On It Like A Sonnet

Some more self-indulgent rubbish.. An untraditional take on a sonnet; the 14-line love poem format seems suitable for Valentines day next week, what with it being on the 14th and all... And yes, I'm aware of the last line being 11 syllables, not 10, it both jars and gels with the rest of the poem though, adding a slightly off-kilter end to a slightly off-kilter poem.

Love Lies

So we return here, again and again;

You say you want me, but you still love him,

I’m left wondering, where will it end

It’s like a test paper we just can’t begin,

Hands hold un-posted love letters to send

Hearts race, deep sea to surface; diver’s bends

And the pain doubles, enough to kill kings,

Faced with poker’s game - all out or all in,

Static whirlpool electric circus spins

Are we just fool’s acrobats, tumbling on?

Love’s wire waits, for desire’s chin to slip in

Tightening, til the last breath is gone…

Can we remain friends through all this and more?

Can anyone win, if no-ones keeping score?

Blood and Diamonds

Some thoughts on a sticky situation, marriage and love. Playing with the title Myth and Missed, a flip on Mr. and Mrs.... Coincidentally, I've just noticed posters round Sydney advertising Tiffany & Co.'s 175th Anniversary this year, not so coincidentally relating to that, it's also Valentine's Day soon...

What the eff is this, heads pop and twist,

Dreams scream unheeded, hearts bleed from wrists,

Love doesn't lie in bed with tortured souls or artists,

Choose life over Sierra's-sparkling rings,

Breakfast is at the club, not what Tiffany's dragged in,

Epiphanies dawn, like shepherds' amber warnings,

Storms break on ships, take the bows, curtain's calling,

Nothing's for certain, not a sure thing,

Checkers move, Othello, make a Moor King,

Dark skin, not a dark heart, pagan magic, not the dark arts,

Blood reigns in blood veins, nature takes her course and paths,

A house of cards will always fall fast,

Build homes on strong foundations, they will always last...
